Restoration in Luxury Interior Design
September 22, 2025
At Helen Green Design, we create timelessness in all projects whether that is a lateral new build apartment in Knightsbridge or a Grade listed property in Belgravia. When working with heritage properties we lean into existing features that we can incorporate into our designs and balance these with contemporary elements that work together to form our timeless look. Luxury interior design, at its core, is the delivering of refined elegance, it is a collaboration of craftsmanship, materiality and mood, tailored to the lifestyle of those who inhabit the space. For us, that means creating homes that are as liveable as they are luxurious, where historical detail and contemporary refinement effortlessly coexist.
Helen Green Design has delivered on many projects that encapsulate both the privileges and challenges that working on a heritage property comes with. Architectural features must be preserved, and original materials carefully restored, to bring new life to these spaces and ensure they can withstand further wear and tear for generations to come.
Our current project in Notting Hill, is a Georgian-style semi-detached home spans over 4,300 square feet, making it one of the largest on its street and one of the most prestigious in the postcode. Here, we are carefully restoring existing period features such as ornate mouldings and panelling, while crafting replicas for newly reconfigured spaces to ensure a seamless aesthetic continuity.
Challenges are inherent in this level of detail, particularly when striving to keep the interior timeless and current. To resolve this, we introduced curved room openings and glass balustrades, which create visual softness and connect the four storeys vertically through a central void, enhancing the sense of volume and light. Additionally, a set of reclaimed 16th-century Parisian stone fireplaces anchor key living spaces, adding further layers of history to the home’s narrative.
Restoration in luxury interior design is not about recreating the past, but reinterpreting it with retrospective respect and a forward-thinking eye. At Helen Green Design, we approach each heritage project as an opportunity to honour a property’s architectural story while shaping it to suit contemporary living.
